Alta View Motel Cafe – Sandy, UT – gone

November 12, 2008

I snapped this one several years ago on State Street, a major road that runs through Salt Lake City and points south. This one is in Sandy. There was no building at the time, just a bunch of trees and this sign. Last month I drove past again and now the trees are gone and they are clearing the land for some new development.

The utility pole was so close, there was no way to capture the sign alone.

Here is the back side of the sign

This is interesting, because I saw the Alta View Motel come up on an iPhone App as the closest motel to my location. I thought it was just a GoogleMaps error, but now thanks to your post I find out that it really use to be there on State St.

Do you have any other vintage photos of Sandy?

Do you mind if I use your picture in our neighborhood newsletter? We have a lot of old timers who may remember this.
